A Day Trip to the Tonto National Park

Lance needed a day to catch up with some golf courses. I needed to get out and explore. I decided to go to Miami -- Miami, Arizona that is and take a trip into the mountains west of Phoenix. I saw Roosevelt Dam, Lake Roosevelt, drove through the Tonto National Park along the Apache Trail (15 miles of which was a very dusty dirt road (see below). It was beautiful so beautiful.

Coming back into Phoenix was Tortilla Flat and the Superstition Mountains. I look a minute or two and did not find the gold that is supposed to have been hidden there.

This is the Superstition Saloon...

You never know when you are going to run into beautiful flowers. With all the cactus and shrubs on the Apache Trail I found this lone purple flowered cactus. (Actually, I saw a man taking pictures and had to look at what he was photographing -- it was this cactus. So, technically I did not find it.)

There were also some great bridges along the way.

It was a long trip -- west on Highway 60, north on Highway 188 and then east on Highway 88. It was well worth it though.
