San Antonio - Part 1 - Famous Landmarks and The Alamo

The 750-foot-tall Tower of the Americas is the first Landmark that confirms you are in San Antonio Texas. I hope we can make time to see the reported breathtaking view of the Alamo City. It is like Seattle's Space Needle since it also has a revolving restaurant.

The "Torch of Friendship" was given to San Antonio by the Mexican Consulate as a sign of friendship and to represent the roots many Texans share with Mexico.

The contemporary steel sculpture was made in Mexico and shipped to San Antonio in six pieces. It stands 65 feet tall and weighs 50 tons.It was commissioned to commemorate the relationship between the United States and Mexico and the two countries' increasing commercial ties.

Urban monumental sculptor Sebastian was commissioned at the request of the Association of Mexican Entrepreneurs of San Antonio to design the sculpture.

The is not a famous landmark. But it gave me a big chuckle. It was advertising the Valero Texas Open which Lance plans to attend. Those golfers who are lifetime members of the PGA Partners get free tickets.

This is also not a famous landmark. But we discovered that for $4.00 you can get on a street car and tour the city -- they have four routes and you can get off and on anytime you want. The wall to someone's back yard was very unusual.

Ta Da -- The Alamo -- it really surprised me to discover the Alamo was in Downtown San Antonio. Somehow I imagined it was out in the woods somewhere.

It was surrounded by a fence and was quite beautifully landscaped.

It had some REALLY old stuff and buildings -- not surprising, huh!

There it is -- the famous Alamo which is always pictured in Alamo settings.
